Inkspill Critiques

Constructive feedback on your short stories or novel extracts

What people are saying...

"Really constructive and useful, especially the macro perspective" - Claire Hatcher*

"Very constructive and encouraging" - Red Morgan*

"[The] feedback seems to really engage with the writing. I've had a lot of feedback by a lot of different people over the years, but the level of detail and empathy for the goals of the story that you have is remarkable... It's one of the most useful critiques I've ever had. I'd recommend you to anyone looking to improve their work." - Angela Readman, author of Strip (Salt Modern Press)*

"Feedback like this is such a useful tool" - Dan Powell*

Structure of feedback

Your feedback will consist of two parts: detailed line edits (copy editing) and a comprehensive report.

The line-by-line editing is structured digitally in Mircosoft Word. It will be presented as a set of comments running parallel to your submitted text. Track changes are not used because, as with all recommendations, the author must make the final judgement.

The report will look at wider issues such as plot, characterisation, pacing and structure. It will also contain a summary of any aspects that need particular focus. It will be emailed to you as a separate document.

Timescale

Feedback will be sent within one week of confirmed payment for work up to 10,000 words. (Or ASAP in the occurrence of unforeseen exceptional circumstances.) Feel free to discuss if you need your feedback more quickly for any reason.

What to send

Inkspill Critiques will happily provide feedback on short stories or novel extracts. If sending a novel extract, please provide a brief summary of the plot and/or an orientation of the scene. (This is not included in your word count.)

Send your text as a Word document.

You can send up to 10,000 words. Please query if you'd like to arrange a larger project or a full manuscript critique.
